Story #
The theater hall I find myself in is a raw, imposing space with a high ceiling and intricate carvings on the pillars that stand either side of the playing space. From the top box I sit in I have a commanding view of the stage where a virtuoso musician is performing to a captivated audience.
The plan for tonight was originally just to turn up to be seen but it is plain impossible to ignore the masterful combination of the artist and their violin entertaining us all.
As the music increases in complexity I become more engaged and attached to what is happening in front of me. Any little nuance or mistake is amplified, making each note and movement all the more captivating.
For a moment my attention wanders and a small glint of light in the gantries above the stage catches my eye. Curiosity gets the better of me and I focus on it, unable to make out what it could be.
My only worry is this might somehow impact the performance and spoil the show.
I quickly pull out my small binoculars, determined to figure out what it might be. As I zoom in I see that it is the stage light being reflected from a lens and behind that lens is a person perched on the gantry.
The music reaches a crescendo and far too late I realise what that lens means and that I am in danger.
I frantically try to escape from the top box but in my panic trip and fall into the door that will only open towards me, holding it shut for just long enough for the danger to become realised.
There is a sudden jolt and a sharp pain in my chest and I find myself unable to hold my own weight up. My calls for help have gone unanswered, drowned out bu the music and cheers from the audience.

I had a whole backstory written for the narrator and tried to incoroprate it in but in the end, cut several hundred words out. I think this might be the shortest piece of fiction I've written.
